Thanksgiving

I dashed into Safeway yesterday to return an item that got in my cart by mistake. Safeway is quick and easy about returns.

“Hey, hi.”

“Hi.” The woman at the counter took the can and gave me the refund.

“Are you off on Thanksgiving? ”

“No I’m here- working.” She shrugged a little, then she smiled, a really nice genuine smile that lingered on her face. “Every day is Thanksgiving for me.”

“Wow. That is so cool.” That one sentence went straight to my heart. I grinned back.  “Well, have a great day.”

But you know, her words stayed with me. “Every day is Thanksgiving for me.” I’m smiling just writing this.

Happy Thanksgiving, dear person at the Safeway counter, today on Thanksgiving… and every day.
