Ever see a baby’s face on that first step? Wonder, curiosity, exhilaration all at once! Why not take that first step where you are right now? You will find what you need. Cognitive function increases as we grow; hence we learn to crawl, walk, talk, etc. But what happens as we continue to age? Cognitive paralysis? Since both my mother and my mother-in-law suffered from dementia, I panic at the thought of retirement. Working for a board of ed, my pseudo-periods of retirement in the summer provide me with a glimpse of such a life, and these wonderful essays on the Writing Life site have afforded me many hours of inspirational thought and creative activity. Thank you, Ethel! I love your retirement checklist in Seedlings. Since I’ll be 69 soon, I’ll have to take that list more seriously………….
Oh how I wish we could meet and talk for a sustained amount of time about this activity of writing and what emerges as “aha’s” insights, chuckles, and just plain old simple truths. I am enjoying your comments. Hope others are too.
